An insulation tester performs the basic measuring function a megohmmeter does — measuring very high resistance values by sending a high voltage signal into the object being tested — and it often does much more; it usually performs more functions, including more complex testing and recording of measurements.

The MIT230 incorporates a range of safety and operation features in one of the smallest electrical insulation testers available. Its LCD offers a combination of digital readout and analogue display, with an analogue pointer response for evaluating circuit charge and discharge characteristics. The instrument housing is in tough ABS.
